GSM stands for Grams per Square Meter, which tells us the weight of fabric in one square meter.
Let’s break it down with an example:

1 square meter of fabric is equal to 100 cm x 100 cm = 10,000 cm²

If you want to make a 40 cm x 40 cm towel, its area is 1,600 cm²

Now, divide 10,000 by 1,600 = 6.25 towels can be made from 1 square meter of fabric
Now let’s calculate the weight of one towel based on GSM:

If the fabric is 400 GSM, divide 400 by 6.25 = 64 grams

This means each 40x40 cm towel should weigh approximately 64 grams

A small variation of ±2 grams is normal, so a real 400 GSM towel can weigh between 62 to 66 grams
